A Little About Us

Behind The Brand

tomco is an independent, NYC-based creative brand rooted in a love of design, paper goods, and making things that don't always need a reason to exist.

Founded by artist and illustrator Maya Armstrong, tomco is a home for hand-drawn illustrations, imperfect lines, and unexpected characters.

Inspired by the things I loved growing up, from illustrated storybooks to the little objects we kept simply because they made us happy, tomco brings a bit of that feeling into everyday life.

Side-by-side childhood and present-day portraits of a Black woman, shown smiling as a child and posing indoors as an adult.

What begins as an idea or a sketch eventually finds its way onto things we use, collect, and keep around.

Every illustration is original, and our paper goods are thoughtfully printed and packed in our studio.

We're starting with stationery, but we're certainly not stopping there.

Meet Tommy & Cora

Two cats: a black-and-white cat standing beside houseplants and a fluffy dark brown cat lying on a patterned rug.

Every brand has an origin story. Ours happens to involve two cats. Meet Tommy and Cora, the real-life inspiration behind tomco and its two permanent residents.

From college days to cross-state moves, new beginnings, and changing seasons, these two have been a constant through it all.

Somewhere between the sketchbooks, scattered art supplies, and countless creative projects, they became more than companions.

Today, their familiar faces are woven into the brand, and they continue to oversee the creative process with the unwavering confidence of two cats who believe they own the place.
